Just like Brian Flemming pointed out in The God Who Wasn’t There, Christians have far too much love for violence and not enough love for love. Flemming pointed out that all other depictions of Jesus combined didn’t gross half as much as the violent and bloody Passion of the Christ, which even went so far as to use a “squirty-thing” off camera to have additional flying blood just so that it wouldn’t be lacking.
Look, if someone were to fire someone for saying something about Jesus, you people would be rounding up an angry mob and fighting for his freedom of speech. But instead, you’re having someone fired because he didn’t speak the bloody Jesus shit you wanted to hear. And all that MidAmerica Nazarene University’s chaplain Randy Beckum said was that there’s far more Christianity in Selma (a story about a man standing up and passively facing adversity… hellooooooo)… than there is about a guy who shoots a bunch of people. Are you fucking kidding me with that shit?
“As you know two movies came out recently. Selma, the story of one of the 20th century most influential Christian leaders, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., who led a non-violent movement that changed the course of American History forever. And American Sniper, the story of the most deadly Navy SEAL sniper in American history. Selma has made 29-30 million so far. American Sniper made over 103 million in the first 4 days. Gives you an idea about who our heroes are. I don’t think it is an under-statement to say that our culture is addicted to violence, guns, war, revenge and retaliation. Unfortunately, so are a lot of Christians.”
And to prove he’s right, you guys got angry and had him fired. And also, apparently bearing false witness is completely okay now too. They demoted him to chaplain but are pretending he wanted the demotion and that it’s not a punishment.
You people are severely fucked.
