I’m rather tired of seeing Bill Maher having to stand up to stupid people. But I never get tired of seeing how masterfully he does it.
After arguing with Fareed Zakaria and reenforcing that Islam is still a package of “bad ideas,” Fareed tells him he’s not changing the world by saying that. How the fuck does Fareed think it’s up to Bill to change the world? And when in the argument he asks how you do deal with the problem of the cancer in Islam, Bill says exactly what’s right: with honesty.
The honesty is, religion has bad, violent ideas, and not enough of those in religion are against the problem. Why is this controversial? It’s the fucking answer! You can’t argue with the answer and then expect us to respect religion. You also cannot No-True-Scotsman your religion into innocence. You have to own up to your religion’s horrible ideas. I get if you’re not like that and you’re trying to make change in it, but you can’t attack people who speak truth and then say your religion is changing.
Here’s some of that argument:
And so with all that, the media recently went apeshit about a recent 1Direction joke he made that’s sooooooooo horrible. How does he answer it?
A much needed segment I hope to see a lot more of: Explaining Jokes to Idiots. I’m waiting for it to be called “mansplaining” by the same media. You just know they will. Here’s the segment:
He even goes so far to thank people who are changing religion from the inside… he thanks “atheist god!” But people will still call him all sorts of names for speaking the honesty…
If only people were half as offended by the horrors as they are by people who talk about them.
