Rand Paul: Accountability… who needs it?
This meme is correct. When President Obama criticized BP, Rand Paul insisted it was exactly that:
What I don’t like from the president’s administration is this sort of, ‘I’ll put my boot heel on the throat of BP.’ …I think that sounds really un-American in his criticism of business.
– Rand Paul on Good Morning America
He went on to defend BP and criticize people for blaming them, the company responsible for the actual oil spill, saying:
And I think it’s part of this sort of blame-game society in the sense that it’s always got to be somebody’s fault instead of the fact that maybe sometimes accidents happen.
That’s Rand Paul for ya. Just like his daddy wasn’t really responsible for the publication he published that had all the hate in it. This is libertarian accountability?
Meanwhile the president’s actions (while criticized like fucking crazy, and who couldn’t see that coming since, OMG it’s Obama so it must be all wrong!) held BP to the fire and made them pay more than any president ever has done to big oil for any of their many spills, and regrets not fighting harder. He even held himself responsible for the disaster!
Now, did Rand Paul take that into account? At any point at all? That who Obama criticized most was himself? Keep that in mind, because…..
In fact they’re still being held accountable. facing $15 billion in fines to this day for the 2010 spill. And that’s fitting since it was possibly the worst single-company environmental disasters of history. But there I go being all unamerican again.
And yet Rand Paul is against anybody being held accountable for anything. Except Obama. For criticizing BP. Because that’s the real tragedy here or something.
