The Truth About Guns is a website that likes to try to get you, in the event of any and every single gun-violence incident, to focus on everything but the fucking guns. Waco, Texas, is no exception.
In this article they list what has been reported:
“A shoving match in a bathroom at a Confederation of Clubs meeting in Waco, Texas exploded into a war…
Nine people were killed, 27 people were injured, 17 were hospitalized, two are listed in critical condition, and 170 men were arrested following a brawl at a chain restaurant in a shopping center on the South Jack Kultgen Espressway.”
Then they have to present the viewpoint of the “gun grabbers” so that they can make you seethe in hatred:
As our Quote of the Day pointed out, the anti-gunners were all over this one; claiming that gun control could have prevented the violence. As if.
Then they say:
More than that, what did cause the death and destruction? Here’s another interesting set of facts …
And then give you this bunch of information:
When the restaurant refused to ban the Confederation of Clubs, police stationed at least 22 cops including ten Swat officers from the Waco P.D. and the Texas Department of Public Safety in the parking lot outside the restaurant. They did not station either uniformed or plain clothes officers in the restaurant.
The shove in the bathroom became a scuffle in the restaurant. When about 30 Bandidos, Cossacks, Scimitars and other bikers spilled into the parking between the Twin peaks and the Don Carlos Mexican restaurant next door, the police were waiting for them. The scuffle became a knife fight and several men were stabbed. When one of the combatants produced a gun the Swat team opened fire with automatic weapons. Multiple sources have told The Aging Rebel that all of the dead were killed by police.
Swanton said the fusillade “saved lives in keeping this from spilling into a very busy Sunday morning. Thank goodness the officers were here and took the action that they needed to take to save numerous lives.”
But they don’t quote their source. Isn’t that interesting? That’s because it doesn’t come to you from a gatherer of facts. It comes to you from a mere blog called The Aging Rebel. When it’s what they want you to think is ridiculous, make fun of the blogs. When it’s what they want you to think, hide the fact they got it from a blog. That’s source-lie #1.
Now let’s misstate the actual thing the media said:
Huh. So that explains all that media buzz yesterday about biker gangs coming to Waco to attack cops.
Absolutely nobody said they were there to attack cops. No one.
But then here’s the fun part. The article gives you this delightful piece of information that it quotes from
Check this from dallasnews.com:
Waco police issued a bulletin at 10:13 Sunday night that announced: “Our agency has recieved (sic) information that the Cosaks (sic) and Banditos (sic) have issued an order to kill anyone in uniform.”
Problem. Go to that page and see if you see that paragraph. It is not there. Know where you can find that? The Aging Rebel’s blog. Probably why there’s so many horrid reasons to go “(sic)” in that paragraph. That’s source-lie #2.
And if your entire premise is that people are lying, you probably need to not do it yourself.
So gun lovers want to do all they can to turn this into a conspiracy and a wicked evil thing, and make gang-fighters out to be just as innocent and just as much a victim as blacks in Baltimore or Ferguson. Anything to get you off the guns.
Now, can we find any actual discrepencies? Of course. It was originally reported by the press (who never misstate what’s said by police or anybody) that “at least 1,000 weapons were recovered. When probably someone just said, “Oh it looked like a thousand.” Then it was reported the actual number was a little over 300. Every gun-loving site will now scream this. This is supposed to make you suspect it’s the cops and a conspiracy. And make you forget that that’s rival gangs in an area where they had over 300 weapons.
So what you’re supposed to believe is that the cops did all of it, and guns and violent people able to get all the guns they want isn’t the problem.
And that’s just not going to fly. But keep the misinformation flying. The Waco truthers are just going to find themselves in the same world as the 9/11 truthers and those demanding Obama’s birth certificate.
Cops suck, yes. But so do gun-toting skinheads. And you ain’t the victim that Freddie Grey is. Good try though.
