Three Supreme Court decisions were announced today. The first two sucked, but on this one, the right thing happened, and it’s HUGE.
It seems someone in Arizona, the reddest red state in all of red-dom, just didn’t have enough Republicans running things. Which is sad considering how bankrupt everything has become from all those tax cuts, and how many people are shot thanks to guns being so fucking free down there.
But SCOTUS, once again thanks to Kennedy, supported a bipartisan effort to uphold Independent drawing of districts rather than ruling party houses.
The Notorious RBG said:
“In so acting, Arizona voters sought to restore ‘the core principle of republican government,’ namely, ‘that the voters should choose their representatives, not the other way around.’ ”
Now that is a quote to be loved.
So a SCOTUS decision that districts cannot be crazily gerrymandered will bring simplicity and sanity to the election process. Because districts should look like something simple, not like amoebas having a fist-fuck orgy.
